Hackathon
Welcome to DojoCode's Hackathon documentation! In this section you get a general understanding of what hackathons are on DojoCode Business, how they differ from contests, and what it takes to run one.
What Is a Hackathon on DojoCode?
A hackathon is a project competition. You publish a brief, participants build a project for it in the DojoCode editor and submit it before the deadline, and a jury you choose scores every submission on criteria you define. When judging ends, DojoCode publishes the ranking and pays the DojoCode Tokens you put up as prizes.
Where a contest measures how fast people solve a fixed set of challenges, a hackathon measures what they can build: architecture, polish, presentation — the things a leaderboard cannot capture.
The lifecycle
- Draft — you write the brief, define the criteria, pick the jury and fund the prizes. Nobody else sees it.
- Upcoming — published. The invitation is public, registration is open, the brief is sealed.
- Live — from the start date: the brief is revealed to everyone, registration closes, participants build and submit.
- Judging — from the submission deadline: the jury scores. Judges see submissions without names.
- Finished — from the judging end date: results and prizes are published automatically; every submission opens to the community.
Who can organize one
Hackathons are created from the Business dashboard by:
- Business accounts with an active plan, and the owners and admins of an organization workspace;
- DojoCode super admins.
On a free trial you can create a limited number of private hackathons; community hackathons and unlimited creation come with a paid plan.
Visibility
- Community — listed on Explore hackathons; anyone with a verified email can register.
- Private — reachable only through its link; use it for a team, a class or a hiring round.
What you get
- A results page with the podium, the full ranking and every judge's feedback.
- A hackathon report (Organization → Reports) with the ranking, judge coverage and submissions per day, exportable as CSV or PDF.
- The Agent: ask it to plan a hackathon and it settles the theme, dates and criteria with you, opens the jury picker and creates the draft.
