Organizations & LTI ​

If your members reach DojoCode by launching it from a Learning Management System (Moodle or Canvas) through LTI 1.3, organizations and LTI work together automatically. Users don't create accounts or pick a workspace by hand — the launch places them in the right organization, with the right role, in the right active workspace. 🔗

What Happens on Launch ​

When someone opens DojoCode from an LMS activity:

  1. The account is provisioned. DojoCode finds or creates a matching DojoCode account for the LMS user.
  2. They're enrolled into the organization. The user is added as a member of the organization tied to that LMS connection.
  3. Their role is mapped from the LMS. Teaching roles become admins; learner roles become members (see the table below).
  4. Their workspace is set. That organization becomes the user's active workspace, so everything they do lands in the right place with no manual switching.

Because instructors arrive as admins, they get the shared manager view immediately — the organization's existing groups, students, and content are right there. Learners arrive as members, ready to receive assignments and take part in contests. See Roles & Permissions.

Content and Assignments Stay in the Organization ​

LTI fits naturally into the shared-content model:

  • When an instructor picks or creates DojoCode content for an LMS activity (via deep linking — the LMS "Select content" flow), that content belongs to the organization, alongside everything else your team has built. See Shared Content.
  • Assignments and the resulting progress live in the organization, so every manager — LMS-launched or not — sees the same picture.
  • When a learner completes work, their grade is sent back to the LMS gradebook automatically (LTI Assignment and Grade Services), so scores show up where instructors expect them.

Who Registers the LMS Connection ​

The LMS ↔ DojoCode connection is registered by a Business account, and it links to that owner's organization. From then on, everyone who launches through that LMS connection is enrolled into the same organization with the mapped role — keeping an entire class or department together in one workspace.
